A Community Garden Tour of Northeast Portland
City Tour, 16 miles
overview
This theme is based off of a fundraising ride I am planning and executing for the non-profit, NE Portland based Urban Farm Collective. The Urban Farm Collective's (UFC) mission is to bring neighbors together to transform vacant lots into neighborhood food gardens for the purposes of education, community building and improving food security. People will get to explore community gardens that are part of the UFC, neighborhood greenways in northeast Portland, some of my favorite local restaurants and bars, and an important history of northeast Portland. This ride is important to me because I have been volunteering for the Urban Farm Collective for about a year, and I have had only positive experiences with community members. We hold a weekly barter market where volunteers can trade their working hours for fresh produce grown locally!
Additionally, northeast Portland has seen some rapid changes in the past few years, and this ride is also meant to fill tourists and locals in on the history of what N Williams and the Boise-Eliot neighborhood used to look like.
