Montrealers call it “the mountain.” Really it’s a big hill, and no trip to Montreal would be complete without making it up the city’s famous icon through one of its loveliest parks. Our favorite way of getting up there is of course by bike, along the wide gravel path through the park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (the same Olmsted who designed New York City’s Central Park).
Vancouver is a great place to discover by bicycle throughout our warm summers. However, the city lights up over the holiday season and hosts numerous activities and events to get you into the spirit of the season. For our family, it has become a tradition to bundle up and set out to any number of activities throughout Vancouver on bicycles. With a portable stereo on hand, we enjoy the twinkling lights and get into the Christmas spirit while listening to some of our favourite Indie Christmas songs.
This scenic twenty mile loop features beautiful neighborhoods, a historic cemetery established in the 1830’s, a photogenic college campus, a pastoral horse farm, a nature preserve and city parks. Your stomach will delight that the route starts and ends in Decatur, the best food neighborhood in Atlanta.
We see bikes as a means to connect people with their communities--and we'd like to start by introducing you to ours. These days, everybody throws around the Brooklyn brand, but Brooklyn is genuinely so much a part of who we are that our bikes are named for its streets, streets we traverse daily. On this ride, you'll see the diversity of our city (and you'll only be going a few miles!) and get a sense of our culture by eating what we eat, shopping where we shop, and taking in the sites and sounds that surround us. (And this ride isn't just for visitors! If you live in another part of Brooklyn, this is an easy and fun way to get to know Williamsburg/Greenpoint while avoiding the seriously trendy spots.)
Atlanta's BeltLine trail and the food scene are a marriage made in heaven. Take a relaxed, 3+ mile tour of 3 foodie hotspots while taking in breathtaking murals along the trail. And if you need to work up an appetite between food stops, we've noted 2 parks and the Stone Mountain Trail to explore. The route is curated and inspired by "Will Bike for Food", an article published in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution written by its food and dining editor Ligaya Figueras.
Madison, Dane County, and South Central Wisconsin are home to a plethora of wonderful organizations helping to preserve the environment, get kids outside, and teach students and families about the world around us. Many of these low-cost or no-cost organizations are within biking distance, and Nature Net has put together a bike map to help you get around. What better way to explore these great spots than by biking with your family?
Vancouver boasts lots of shopping hot spots for tourists and locals alike. For the more discerning shopper, some of the most unique and local boutiques are found in Gastown and along the stretch of South Main, otherwise known as SoMa and Little Mountain. Main Street is also THE PLACE for vintage lovers, with more second hand stores than anywhere else in the city.
Milwaukee is a city with a long beer history but things get interesting when you leave behind the macro brews and check out the new brewers in town. This route highlights the urban craft beers that residents love, plus steers you towards some of our favorite bars that always have stellar tap lists.
